Greater Allegheny Athletic Department Hosts 2016 Signing Day

 

McKeesport, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny campus hosted a 2016 Signing Day for student-athletes from local high schools and out-of-state to informally commit to attend the university and to be part of the athletics programs offered on campus. The event took place in the Ostermayer room of the Student Community Center on Monday June 27th, where twenty-one student-athletes and their families attended.

Head coach, Victoria Blosser, and assistant coach, Kelly Hall, of the women's softball team would like to congratulate the six players that signed on their commitment. Joining the GA softball team for the Spring 2017 season are Sydney Fritchman (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton High School), Mikki Henderson (Bowie, Md./Bullis High School), Morgan Lancaster (Wellsburg, W. Va./Brooke High School), Savanna Simm (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin High School), Raeann Sleith (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin High School), and Kyliegh Staudt (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland High School).

Coming off of a PSUAC Semi-Final finish, men's basketball head coach, Tyler Care, welcomes three local newcomers for the 2016-2017 season. Nate Andrews (Penn Hills, Pa./Serra Catholic High School), Steven Ennis (South Park, Pa./South Park High School), and Virgil McClendon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Barack Obama Academy) will be joining the GA Lions in the fall.

Taking over the 2015 PSUAC runner-up men's soccer team this season is head coach, Walt Sullinger. Coach Sullinger congratulates and welcomes Ronnies Caldro (Glassport, Pa./South Allegheny High School) and Nicholas Mallas (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport High School) to the team. Their season is set to kick off with a home game against Westmoreland County Community College on September 7th at 5:00pm.

After a rebuilding season in 2015, head coach, Tracy Gibbs, and assistant coach, Fred Guy, of the women's volleyball team are hungry to compete in their post-season with the help of their new recruits. The lady lions welcome Dorina Adou (Pittsburgh, Pa./Barack Obama Academy), Hayley Maksin (Port Vue, Pa./South Allegheny High School), and Paige Krupa (Lake Worth, Fla./Lake Worth Community High School). Their season kicks off with a USCAA tournament that will be held at Penn State Beaver the weekend of August 26th.  

Head coach, Dean Pope, of the men's baseball team is looking forward to the addition of six new recruits for the 2017 season. Coach Pope and the rest of the team would like to congratulate and welcome Blake Flocker (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport High School), Jarod Kashner (Columbia, Pa./Columbia High School), Brian Koglin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel High School), T.J. Lux (West Newton, Pa./Yough High School), Zack Pollack (Cecil, Pa./Canon McMillan High School), and Brett Yvhas (Munhall, Pa./Steel Valley High School).

Finishing fifth overall in the Chancellor's cup standings for the 2015-2016 season, the athletics department at PSUGA is excited to see what the upcoming seasons have in store with the help of these new student-athletes.
