GA Men's Basketball Welcomes Camp Zeke to Wunderley Gymnasium

June 30, 2015 - McKeesport, Pa. - The Scoring Factory and the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's basketball team had a successful Monday when Camp Zeke came to Wunderley Gymnasium with a large group of student-athletes entering 1st-12th grades, challenging them with drills, skills and competitions throughout the day.

Professional basketball player Zeke Marshall returns to his roots to offer a one of a kind basketball camp in McKeesport. The young athletes took part in stations assisted by the Greater Allegheny athletes for defense, shooting, ball-handling, rebounding and passing. Zeke then talked to everyone about his past NBA experience along with growing up in McKeesport. The group then ended their day with small-sided games and free-throw shooting. All players received an official camp shirt and the opportunity to learn new skills to take their game to the next level.

Greater Allegheny Athletic Department Visits H.J. Heinz Campus - VA Healthcare System

Feb. 16, 2015 - Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny Athletic Department, coaches and student-athletes traveled to the H.J. Heinz Campus of the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System in Aspinwall, Thursday, to share Valentine's Day cheer with the veterans.

Over 25 representatives of the Penn State Greater Allegheny Athletic Department traveled to the VA to spread Valentine's Day cards to each of the veterans. The cards were carefully crafted by local elementary students.

This past week was the National Salute to Veteran Patients Week at all Veteran Hospitals throughout the United States.

On the day of the 12^th, there was a Parade of Heroes and Opening Ceremonies before the National Salute, where our student-athletes were assigned as tour guides to visit with the Veterans on the units while the parties go on. 

The Penn State Greater Allegheny Athletic Department wanted to thank the H.J. Heinz Campus, the staff and most importantly, the veterans, for allowing us to come out and share holiday cheer. Volunteering and being involved in our community means a lot to each student-athlete and it was a great experience to share with the veterans.

GA Women's Soccer Supports Former Woodland Hills Grad Kick Cancer

Sept. 22, 2014 - Turtle Creek, Pa. -The Penn State Greater Allegheny women's soccer team went out to support 2011 Woodland Hills graduate Colleen Kennedy, as she bravely battles brain and spinal cancer.

Wednesday night, the Woodland Hills High School girl's soccer team welcomed not only the Penn Hills girl's soccer team to the game, but also over 500 of Colleen's army of supporters.

Colleen, a 21 year old alumnus of Woodland Hills High School and a four-year member of the Woodland Hills girl's soccer team, was diagnosed this summer with two glioblastoma tumors in her brain and one in her spine. 

Colleen Kennedy and her family are known in the community as an inspiring, generous and kind family who work hard to give so much to others. For years, they have supported and raised money for the Reflections of Grace Foundation, a family friend who lost her battle with brain cancer at just 5 1/2 years old.

"Kickin' it for Colleen" and "Colleen Strong" is a fundraiser to raise money for her and her family to assist with their ongoing struggle. Her team, school and community wanted to give back to a woman they call an inspiring leader.

With the assistance of those 500 people that attended the game, Colleen and her family received over $5,000 raised over the course of the soccer game.
