Big Days Earn Bucsok/Timsah PSUGA Athletes of the Week

McKeesport, PA. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Athletic Department announced its final PSUGA Male and Female Athletes of the Week on Tuesday, and both players had big days to earn them the awards. Volleyball’s Sueriah Timsah (Mesquite, TX./West Mesquite HS) was named PSUGA Female Athlete of the Week while Soccer’s Colin Bucsok (Pittsburgh, PA./Thomas Jefferson HS) earned the Male Athlete of the Week award.

Timsah led the PSUGA Volleyball team to a 2-1 record last week including two big conference wins over PSU-Shenango and PSU-Fayette to get her team to 3-2 in conference play. Timsah led the offense with 30 kills and 10 service aces in 11 sets played and finished second in digs for the week with 25.

Her biggest game of the week came against PSU-Beaver when she led the offense with 10 kills on 34 total attacks while grabbing eight digs in the loss. She turned around the very next day and added nine more kills and 10 digs in the team’s first-ever win against Penn State Fayette helping them grab a two-game lead over fifth-place PSU-DuBois.

With PSUGA sitting in fourth place in the PSUAC West Division Standings, they are right where they want to be as the season nears its halfway point. PSUGA has to just keep winning down the stretch to ensure that they can grab one of the four playoff spots in the West Division and make the tournament for the first time since the 2014 season.

For the PSUGA Soccer team, it was a tough weekend as they dropped both of their games falling to PSU-Lehigh Valley and PSU-Scranton. Although it was a tough week for the team, Bucsok played well in both games as he kept PSUGA in both games throughout. Bucsok totaled 181:56 minutes in goal making 27 saves on 34 shots on goal for a .794 save percentage.

He made 10 saves on 11 shots on goal during the first game of the weekend helping his team get to overtime before eventually falling 1-0. Then, he put together the best save game of his career the very next day where he saved 17 of the 23 shots he faced falling just two saves short of the single-game record set back in 2014.

For Timsah, it is the second time this season that she has been named PSUGA Female Athlete of the Week after winning the award back in the first week of competition. Bucsok is winning the award for the first time this season and is the first soccer player to win the PSUGA Athlete of the Week honor.

The PSUGA Volleyball team is back in action tonight against PSU-New Kensington at 7 p.m. while the Soccer team doesn’t take the field again until Tuesday, October 1st, against Penn State Beaver.
