PSUGA Introduces New Intramural Weightlifting Program for Students, Faculty, and Staff

McKeesport, PA. – For PSUGA students who are looking to train hard, get stronger, and have fun, PSUGA is starting a program for you. On November 12th 2018 PSUGA introduces a brand-new intramural weightlifting program in the Regis W. Becker Strength & Conditioning room, located behind the gym, on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 3 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. It offers a chance for students to work out in a stress-free environment and have fun while doing so.

The Regis W. Becker Strength & Conditioning room offers another option to students who originally could only work out in the Fitness Center. The weight room features five Olympic weightlifting racks, two treadmills, two rowing machines, three flipping tires, ropes, dumbells, and weights ranging from 2.5 – 55 pounds. Any PSUGA student, faculty, or staff member is free to use the facilities and participate in this fun new intramural sport.

There is specific weight training available to anyone who wants to learn from USA Weightlifter and PSUGA freshman Emma Mattei. Mattei just received her USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coaching Certification and is excited to be able to pass on her knowledge to anyone who is interested in learning how to do the exercises properly while getting stronger.

Mattei has been weightlifting for the past three years and started with Olympic Wieightlifting a little over a year ago. She has been a member of USA Weightlifting ever since competing in competitions in an around the Pittsburgh area. Mattei says that weightlifting has helped her improve her overall strength and athletic abillity as well as pushed her to new limits.

Mattei is excited to be able to serve as a mentor for anyone who is trying to better themselves and wants to give olympic weightlifting a try. Mattei will be available Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 3 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. to provide instruction and anyone who wants to lift can show up between those times to participate. If you have any questions about the training available you can contact Mattei at (724) 309-0235.
