PSUGA Kids College Joins PSUGA Athletics for Sports Week

McKeesport, PA. – Throughout the summer, Penn State Greater Allegheny has been hosting the 2019 Kids College inviting children ages 8-13 to campus to try new things ranging from Graphic Design to Performing Arts. During the week of July 22nd – July 26th, the Kids College will be teaming up with PSUGA Athletics for Sports Week where each child will get to try their hand at a different sport throughout the week.

The camp will be headed by PSUGA Sports Information Director Zack Zeigler who will be working with camp directors Mylisha Burns and Eric Ewell to present the students with a week full of fun and exciting activities. Each day of the camp will focus on a different sport and, with the help of PSUGA players and coaches, each student will get the full experience of the sport from the fundamentals to in-game action.

Each morning of the camp will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m. followed by a look at a different career in the athletic field from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Then, beginning at 11 a.m., we will dive into the basics of each sport with the help of PSUGA Coaches and players. They will talk about their specific teams and things the students need to know from basics and fundamentals to rules of the sport.

After lunch, the kids will take the field and get hands on with the sport of the day. It will begin with a practice session where the kids will cycle through four different stations over the course of an hour and the afternoon will end with a scrimmage where the students will apply what they learn in some friendly competition between other students and camp counselors alike.

The camp will be held inside the Wunderly Gymnasium classroom and the surrounding athletic fields on the campus. The schedule of sports that will be focused on are the following:

     Monday July 22nd: Basketball

     Tuesday July 23rd: Baseball/Softball

Wednesday July 24th: Track & Field

     Thursday July 25th: Soccer

Friday July 26th: Kickball Tournament/Awards Ceremony

The camp costs $150 per student and all students are encouraged to bring a packed lunch for the day. To reserve your spot email Mylisha Burns at mfb5751@psu.edu. We hope to see you there for a fun week of athletics.
