McKeesport, PA. – On August 1st 2018, Penn State Greater Allegheny announced that Tyler Care would be hired as the new Assistant Athletic Director for the 2018-2019 school year. Care has spent the last four years with PSUGA as the head men’s basketball coach and now adds a slew of new responsibilities to his resume.
Care has had one of the most successful basketball coaching careers in PSUGA History. He is the winningest coach in Men’s Basketball history with a career record of 64-46, and he has led his team to three Penn State University Athletic Conference Playoff Appearances, two United States Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament Appearances, and one PSUAC Championship.
He has helped change the culture of PSUGA Men’s Basketball as well as helping to bring more recruits to campus every year helping the university to grow. In his new position, Care will be in charge of helping to run the day to day operations of PSUGA Athletics including coordinating of student workers as well as working with intramural and club sports.
Care will also be serving as the new head coach of the revitalized PSUGA Golf Program that is starting in the 2018-2019 school year. Care’s dedication to PSUGA Athletics and his ability to work hard are a few of the many reasons PSUGA is excited to have him.
“We are very excited to have Tyler Care on board for the 2018-2019 year,” said Athletic Director Korie Morton-Rozier. “He has such a passion and dedication for the campus and it’s athletic programs and we are excited for what lies ahead in the future.”
Care graduated from Penn State Beaver in 2012 with a degree in Business Management. During his time at Beaver, he was a four-year star on the Men’s Basketball team helping lead his team to three PSUAC Championships as well as a second-place finish in the USCAA National Championship Tournament.
He would then move on to become the associate head coach at Butler County Community College for one season before becoming a graduate assistant at California University of Pennsylvania, where he would earn his master’s degree in Sports Administration in 2014. He started his coaching career at PSUGA in 2014 and has since took a program that was just 9-17 before his arrival and turned it into a winning program.
PSUGA Athletics starts their year on August 31st when the Volleyball team will travel to Penn State Beaver for a tournament where they will play Carlow at 3:30 p.m. and The University of Maine at Fort Kent at 8 p.m.
