Baseball Drops First Game of Season, 8-1 to University of Dallas

Penn State Greater Allegheny suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of the University of Dallas, by a score of 8-1.

Penn State garnered an early lead in the bottom of the first when third basemen Brian Ripper(West Mifflin) knocked in center fielder Zak Schmidt (Moon), after a lead-off double.  The bats would grow quiet, however, as Penn State only managed five hits the rest of way and was unable to get any more runs across against Dallas starting pitcher Chris Schierhorn.

Schierhorn picked up the win for Dallas, throwing a complete game, and only allowing the one run across. Scott Dierdorf(Hopewell) (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up 4 runs through 4 innings, while striking out 4.

Greater Allegheny drops to 2-1 overall, and will be back in action tomorrow against defending National Champion Briarcliffe at 12:30 p.m. in the stadium, and then finishes up the day with a night cap against Vermillion CC at 7:00 p.m.
