Baseball Sweeps PSU-Wilkes Barre 11-1 and 10-0

Penn State Greater Allegheny cruised through a double header with Penn State Wilkes-Barre, winning by scores of 11-1 and 10-0. Great Allegheny's record improves to 11-8 overall, and 3-1 in PSUAC play.

In game 1, Freshman centerfielder Zak Schmidt (Moon) led the bats for GA with 3 RBI's, all coming on a 3-run blast to right center in the bottom of the 5th. Five other Greater Allegheny players recorded RBI's:  Junior second baseman Ted Fricke (Carrick), Freshman first baseman Adam Wehr (Northwestern), Sophomore third baseman Robbie Shartle (Meadville), Sophomore outfielder Mike Uhouse (St. La Salle), and Sophomore outfielder Matt Bradburn (Baldwin).  On the hill for GA was freshman pitcher Tim Connelly (Woodland Hills), who earned the victory. Connelly went the distance, giving up just 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 8.

In game 2, Freshman shortstop Scott Dierdorf (Hopewell),  first baseman Adam Wehr , and Freshman second baseman Kevin Quinn (West Mifflin) each knocked in 2 runs for Greater Allegheny. Center fielder Zak Schmidt, pitcher Ted Fricke, left fielder Matt Bradburn, and Freshman catcher Bill Hodgetts (West Mifflin) each also added an RBI. Ted Fricke was on the hill for GA, and earned the win. Fricke tossed 6 shutout innings, while giving up only 3 hits, and striking out 9.

Penn State Greater Allegheny will be back in action tomorrow with a double header against Penn State Mont Alto, with the first pitch at 12:00 PM.
