Baseball Sweeps Penn College Improves to 11-1 in PSUAC

Penn State Greater Allegheny continued to cruise along Sunday afternoon, sweeping PSUAC opponent Penn College by the scores of 12-3 and 4-1.

In game 1, Junior second baseman Ted Fricke (Carrick) accounted for nearly all the Greater Allegheny offense, going 3-4 with 7 RBI's, including a second inning grand slam to center. Sophomore outfielder Matt Bradburn (Baldwin) also aided in the attack, going 2-4, while driving in 2 runs.  Junior starting pitcher John Lutz (5-1) (West Mifflin) garnered the win for Greater Allegheny giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 7.

In game 2, starting pitchers Scott Dierdorf (Hopewell) and Joshua Longsderff were locked into an intense pitcher's dual deep into the ball game. Matthew King drew first blood for Penn College with his 5th inning homerun off of Dierdorf, to break the 0-0 tie. Dierdorf would get his revenge, however, as he led off the top of the 6th inning for GA with a game-tying homerun to right centerfield.  Greater Allegheny would then knock in 3 more runs in the inning, led by RBI's from Freshman outfielder Zack Schmidt (2) (Moon) and Sophomore outfielder Matt Bradburn (Baldwin). Scott Dierdorf picked up the win for GA, pitching 6 innings, giving up just the 1 run, while striking out 12. Junior Ted Fricke pitched a 1-2-3 7th to seal the deal.

Penn State Greater Allegheny ups its record to 19-8 overall and 11-1 in PSUAC play. GA has also now won 10 games in a row. The club will be back in action tomorrow, as it travels to Point Park University for a 3:00 PM tilt.
