Baseball Falls to Nationally Ranked Point Park

After a week off, the Penn State Greater Allegheny baseball program made the short commute to Pittsburgh, PA to face nationally ranked Point Park University. Greater Allegheny was swept in the afternoon twinbill 16-10 and 6-5 in 9innings.

In game 1, a group of Greater Allegheny pitchers struggled allowing Point Park to secure an early lead and cruise tot he 16-10 victory. Sophomore Ted Fricke (Carrick) picked up two hits, and blasted his third homerun of the season. Senior Nate Raffle (GCC) also picked up two hits in the loss. Freshman Adam Wehr also added three rbi's.

In game 2, Greater Allegheny took the Pioneers to extra innings, but an rbi single in the bottom of the ninth lifted Point Park to the 6-5 victory. Sophomore Matt Bradburn (Baldwin) picked up three hits, and Sophomore Robbie Shartle (Meadville) blasted a three-run homerun in sixth innning.

Greater Allegheny falls to 19-10 overall. The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday April 19, 2011 at Pullman Park in Butler, PA first pitch is 1:00 p.m.
