Penn State Greater Allegheny picked up 2 more key PSUAC victories last night over Penn State Beaver, by the scores of 7-6 and 3-0.

In game 1, the GA offense took a little while to get going. After trailing 5-0 early, the bats awoke, led by Freshman center fielder Zak Schmidt's (Moon) 3 hits and 1 run, combined with Sophomore right fielder Mike Visloski's(West Allegheny) 2 hits and 2 RBI's.  Greater Allegheny rallied to tie the game at 5 with 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning.  After Junior second baseman Ted Fricke (Carrick) and Freshman third baseman Scott Dierdorf (Hopewell) reached, Mike Visloski belted a 2-run triple to get GA within 1.  Visloski would eventually come around to score on an error by Penn State Beaver's third baseman.  Beaver, however, would score a go-ahead run in the top of the 9th off of Ted Fricke. In Greater Allegheny's bottom half of the 9th, Freshman Sam Weightman (Penn Trafford) stepped in to pitch hit with one man on, and 2 outs. Weightman would come through for GA, with a walk-off, 2-run blast.  Ted Fricke earned the win for GA, striking out 4 batters over 2 innings, after taking over pitching duties in the 8th.

Game 2 featured much less drama for GA, as Scott Dierdorf pitched a 1-hit gem, striking out 13 Beaver hitters over 7 innings.  Zak Schmidt, Mike Visloski, and Ted Fricke each notched 2 hits for Greater Allegheny, with Schmidt and Fricke knocking in a run apiece.

With the 2 wins, Penn State Greater Allegheny increase its overall record to 21-10, and 13-1 in PSUAC play. GA now holds a secure grip atop the PSUAC standings, with 4 conference games remaining.  Greater Allegheny will be back in action this weekend as it faces off against conference foe Penn State Hazleton on Friday.  First pitch is 12:00 PM.
