Baseball Picks up Win and Tie at Westmoreland CC

Penn State Greater Allegheny picked up another win and a rare tie against Westmoreland County Community College Monday, by the scores of 8-5 and 4-4.

Game 1 featured Greater Allegheny's bats at their finest. Seven different players recorded a hit, with Freshman outfielder Zak Schmidt (3) (Moon), Freshman infielder Scott Dierdorf (2) (Hopewell), and Freshman infielder Dan Laird (2) (Steel Valley) recording multiple hits.  Freshman starting pitcher Tim Connelly (Woodland Hills) picked up his 4th win of the season on the mound for GA, giving up just 2 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 5 WCCC batters through 4-plus innings. Sophomore Matt Bradburn (Baldwin) relieved Connelly and helped GA hold on for the win.

In game 2, a game which was called in the 7th due to darkness, ended in a rare 4-4 tie. The Greater Allegheny offense was led by Freshman infielder Sam Weightman (Penn Trafford) and infielder Dan Laird's 2 hits apiece. Weightman also knocked in a run, with Laird knocking in 2.  Junior starting pitcher Jonathan Lutz (West Mifflin) pitched 5 shutout innings, while fanning 4.  Freshmen pitchers Brian Ba;agurchik (Notre Dame) and Jeff Ziegler (West Mifflin) combined to pitch the remaining 2 innings for Greater Allegheny.

Penn State Greater Allegheny's record now stands at 24-10-1 overall and remains 15-1 in PSUAC play.  GA will return to the diamond Wednesday, as it faces off against Point Park at 3:00 PM.
