Baseball Falls to Briarcliffe, Claims 3rd Place at USCAA World Series

Penn State Greater Allegheny suffered a 10-0 defeat at the hands of Briarcliffe (NY) in the semi-finals of the USCAA Small-College World Series.  Despite the loss, Greater Allegheny finishes an all-time best 3rd in the tournament.

The GA bats couldn't get going, as they mustered only 4 hits against the Briarcliffe hurler.  Freshman center fielder Zak Schmidt (Moon), Sophomore right fielder Mike Visloski (West Allegheny), Junior starting pitcher Ted Fricke (Carrick), and Sophomore left fielder Matt Bradburn (Baldwin) each recorded a hit.  Ted Fricke started the game for Greater Allegheny and struck out 5 batters over 3+ innings. Freshman pitcher Jeff Ziegler (West Mifflin) came on in relief to finish the game.

Penn State Greater Allegheny finishes the season at 30-13-1, highlighted by a 3rd place finish in the USCAA Small-College World Series.  The squad also won the PSUAC regular season and tournament championships, and returns with high hopes for next season.
