Baseball Bounces Back to Sweep SUNY-Canton

McKeesport, Pa- Greater Allegheny used strong pitching in Game 1 and followed it up with another solid performance in Game 2, as they swept SUNY-Canton in a double-header.  Freshmen Matt Klena (Shaler, PA) and Aaron McGee (Penn Trafford, PA) combined to pitch a 3-hit shutout in a 4-0 victory in Game 1, and GA would hold on to win Game 2, 5-3.

GA scored all of their Game 1 runs in the third and fourth innings, fronted by Junior Mike Visloski (West Alleghen, PA) driving in two runs with his third inning single.  Sophomore Zak Schmidt (Moon, PA) doubled to lead off the fourth, and then scored on a double by Freshman Oliver Girman (Serra Catholic, PA).  Girman would then score on a Sophomore Sam Weightman (Penn Trafford, PA) single down the left field line.

Matt Klena and Aaron McGee combined for the 3-hit shutout, with Klena (1-0) picking up the win.  He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up all 3 hits, and striking out 3 batters.  McGee pitched the final 1.1, and struck out 2.

SUNY-Canton would chip away at the GA lead inning by inning, scoring a run in the second, third, and sixth innings, to keep the score close.  Mike Visloski would score on an error in the GA third, notching them their fifth run.

Oliver Girman picked up the win in relief of Senior Teddy Fricke (Carrick), who only got through the first three innings.  Girman pitched the next three, giving up 1 run on 4 hits, striking out 3.  Aaron McGee pitched the seventh,  and picked up the save, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 1 batter.

The middle of the line-up did the bulk of the damage for Greater Allegheny, with Adam Wehr and Sam Weightman combining for 4 RBI's.  Wehr would go 3-3 on the day, with a run scored.
