Baseball Wraps Up Regular Season With 3-3 Trip

McKeesport, Pa- The Greater Allegheny baseball team wrapped up its regular season with six conference games in just three days, going 3-3 over the stretch.  On Thursday, April 19 GA was swept in a home run laden double-header against Penn State Beaver, losing 6-4 and 7-5.  They bounced back for a sweep of Penn State York on Friday, winning 3-1 and 9-5, then ended their weekend swing by splitting a pair of games with Penn State Mont Alto.  Greater Allegheny lost game 1 8-5, then fought back for an 11-6 win in game 2.

   In the two games against Penn State Beaver, the two teams combined to hit five home runs.  Greater Allegheny led late into game 1, before a 3-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning pushed Beaver in front.  In game 2, GA trailed for most of the contest, before cutting the lead to just 7-5 heading into the seventh.  However, they could not scratch across any runs in the seventh, losing 7-5.

  Freshman outfielder Oliver Girman (Serra Catholic, PA) collected 2 hits and 2 RBI's on the afternoon, with one hit being a lead-off home run in game 1.  Junior outfielder Mike Visloski (West Allegheny, PA) also homered, collecting 3 hits and 2 RBI's.  Sophomore first baseman Adam Wehr (Northwestern Lehigh, PA) hit the third Greater Allegheny home run, while driving in 2 runs.

  Greater Allegheny bounced back from the losses at Beaver, to sweep Penn State York.  Sophomore outfielder Zak Schmidt (Moon, PA) had 2 hits- one being a double- an RBI, and scored 2 runs.  Adam Wehr and sophomore second baseman Kevin Quinn (West Miflfin, PA) also collected 2 hits each, with Wehr recording 2 RBI's to Quinn's 1.  Oliver Girman (4-1) earned a complete game victory in game 1, surrendering just 1 run on 4 hits, while striking out 2.  Sophomore Brian Balagurchik (Notre Dame Academy, VA) picked up the win in game 2, pitching 4 innings while striking out 4.

  GA would finish up its weekend swing by splitting a double-header with Penn State Mont Alto.  Mike Visloski collected his second home run of the weekend, notching 3 hits and 3 RBI's.  Oliver Girman also homered again, and added 4 RBI's.  Senior Teddy Fricke (Carrick, PA) earned the win on the mound for GA, giving up 6 runs (3 earned) on just 4 hits.  Fricke (4-1) struck out 5 and walked 3. 

  Greater Allegheny finishes up the regular season at 27-13 overall and 14-4 in the PSUAC.  They have qualified for the PSUAC playoffs, and will take on Penn College this Thursday, April 26.  Seeding and home team has yet to be determined, but first pitch is set for 1:30 PM.
