Baseball Ends Florida Trip with 9-3 Loss to WVU Tech

Vero Beach, Fl- In their final Spring Training tune-up before embarking on the bulk of the schedule, the Greater Allegheny (4-6) baseball team suffered a 9-3 loss at the hands of NAIA opponent, West Virginia Tech.

GA jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the first three innings, as a two run double in the first from junior first baseman Adam Wehr (Orefield, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) combined with a third inning solo home run from sophomore outfielder Oliver Girman (Monroeville, PA/Serra Catholic) to put GA in front.

Junior right-hander Evan James (Harrison City, PA/Western Oklahoma State) cruised through the opening three frames with five strikeouts, including a one-two-three third inning in which he punched out the side.

WVU Tech held Greater Allegheny off the board in the fourth, and then exploded for five runs in their half of the inning.  Four more runs for WVU Tech in sixth, along with the silence of the GA bats, preserved the 9-3 win.

Girman went 3-3 with an RBI coming on his solo shot to left field, while Wehr drove in two runs on his first inning double.  James (1-1) took the loss, as he allowed five runs- one earned- over 3.2 innings of work.  He struck out five and allowed just four hits,

Greater Allegheny ends the trip with a 3-6 in the Sunshine State, and returns home with a full week off before their next competition. GA will take on SUNY Canton Saturday, March 16, with the first pitch of the double-header set for 12 PM.
