Baseball Opens Home Slate with Double-Header Sweep of SUNY-Canton

Butler, Pa- Pennsylvania in March is a far cry from the comfy confines of Florida from just a week ago, as the Greater Allegheny (6-6) baseball team was welcomed home by a snow-covered field and freezing, game time temperatures.  Hot GA bats quickly melted the slush, revealing a warm,  double-header sweep of visiting SUNY-Canton by the scores of 9-5 and 7-4.

Junior designated hitter Sam Weightman (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford) led the scorching GA bats by going 4-5 with an RBI between the two wins.  A trio of talented freshmen each knocked in two runs in the second game for Greater Allegheny: outfielder Jon White (North Huntingdon, PA/Greensburg Central Catholic), shortstop Luke Koshinsky (Plum, PA/Plum), and third baseman Brian Colon (Carolina, PR/University Gardens). White, along with senior outfielder Mike Visloski (McDonald, PA/West Allegheny) and junior first baseman Adam Wehr (Orefield, PA/Northwestern Lehigh), recorded an RBI in game one.  Freshman outfielder Alente Johnson (Rochester, PA/Rochester) went 2-4 at the plate in game two, while using his blazing speed to score five total runs on the day.

Sophomore right-hander Eddie Emes (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) earned the game one win on the hill for Greater Allegheny, allowing three runs on five hits over his four innings of work.  Emes (2-1) also struck out three while walking five.

Freshman left-hander, Zach Krivda (McKeesport, PA/McKeesport), took the win in game two, surrendering just two runs on five hits.  Krivda improved to 2-0 on the young season, as he struck out five and walked one.

Greater Allegheny wraps up their four game series with SUNY-Canton tomorrow afternoon with game one of the double-header set to begin at 11 AM.
