Baseball Opens PSUAC Play with Double-Header Split Against Brandywine

Media, Pa- In their first PSUAC action of the season, the Greater Allegheny (8-9, 1-1 PSUAC) baseball team split a pair of games while visiting Penn State Brandywine.  GA cruised to a 10-0 (5 inn.) win in game one, before two sixth inning runs gave Brandywine the 7-6 win in game two.

Greater Allegheny amassed 11 hits in game one, with four different batters notching two: freshman outfielder Alente Johnson (Rochester, PA/Rochester), sophomore outfielders Zach Zeroski (Imperial, PA/West Allegheny) and Oliver Girman (Monroeville, PA/Serra Catholic), and senior outfielder Mike Visloski (McDonald, PA/West Allegheny).  Zeroski and freshman third baseman Brian Colon (Carolina, PR/University Gardens) both drove in three runs, while Girman drove in two, with one of his RBI's coming on a fifth inning a double.

Sophomore right-hander Eddie Emes (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) was impressive on the mound, hurling a five inning no-hitter.  Emes (3-1) struck out seven while walking five.

In game two, an RBI single from junior first baseman Adam Wehr (Orefield, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) set off a string of three consecutive, run-producing at-bats in the GA third, increasing their early lead to 5-0.  Brandywine answered with four runs in the bottom of the third, and trailed 6-5 heading into the last of the sixth.  The home team plated two more in the sixth, and then held off Greater Allegheny for the 7-6 win.

Johnson and Wehr each went 2-4, with Wehr and Visloski driving in two runs apiece.  Sophomore right-hander Dan Laird (Munhall, PA/Steel Valley) pitched the first five innings for Greater Allegheny, surrendering six runs- three earned- on six hits, while striking out and walking two.

GA quickly returns to PSUAC action tomorrow afternoon for a home double-header against Penn State Wilkes-Barre.  First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:30 PM.
