Big Bats, Dominant Pitching Give Baseball Double-Header Sweep of Fayette

Washington, Pa- Junior right-hander Evan James (Harrison City, PA/Western Oklahoma State) and freshman left-hander Zach Krivda (McKeesport, PA/McKeesport) combined to strike out 21 batters in their 12 total innings, to lead the Greater Allegheny (13-11, 5-1 PSUAC) baseball team to 13-3 (5 inn.) and 6-0 wins over Penn State Fayette.

Junior first baseman Sam Weightman (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford) belted a two run homer in the bottom of the fourth, opening up a 9-3 GA lead.  Sophomore infielder Aaron McGee (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford) singled home senior catcher Josh Kubisz (Goose Creek, SC/Goose Creek) two at-bats later, pushing the lead to 10-3 through four.

After allowing three Fayette runs in the second inning, James reeled off eight strikeouts over the final three frames.  An RBI ground-out from Weightman in the bottom of the fifth ended the game, as Greater Allegheny scored its 13 runs on 10 hits.

Weightman went 2-3 with four RBI's- two coming on his first home run of the season- while sophomore outfielder Zach Zeroski (Imperial, PA/West Allegheny) went a perfect 3-3.  Senior second baseman Jason Paris (Houston, PA/Chartiers Houston) collected two hits, and had one RBI.  James (4-1) earned the complete game victory, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out 10. 

Freshman outfielder Alente Johnson (Rochester, PA/Rochester), sophomore designated hitter Oliver Girman (Monroeville, PA/Serra Catholic), and Zeroski each recorded third inning RBI's in game two, after what had been a quiet game up to that point.

Paris singled home a run in the fourth, followed by two more runs in the fifth, which lifted GA to its 6-0 advantage.  Krivda (4-0) kept the Fayette offense at bay, allowing just six runners to reach base.  He earned the complete game shutout by allowing a paltry three hits, issuing three walks, and striking out 11. 

Zeroski, Weightman, Paris, and McGee each recorded two hits, while Girman tallied a pair of RBI's. 

Greater Allegheny faces Penn College in a PSUAC double-header this Thursday afternoon, with game one set for 1 PM.
