Walk-Off Win Earns Baseball Double-Header Split with Penn College

Butler, Pa- Sophomore catcher Clay Groff's (Pittsburgh, PA/Allderdice) RBI single in the bottom of the eight inning lifted the Greater Allegheny (14-12, 6-2 PSUAC) baseball team to a 1-0 victory over Penn College in game two of their PSUAC double-header, after the Wildcats took the opener, 5-1.

Sophomore outfielder Oliver Girman (Monroeville, PA/Serra Catholic) had two hits and scored GA's lone run in game one, while junior first baseman Sam Weightman (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford) went 1-3 with an RBI.  Sophomore right-hander Eddie Emes (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) suffered his first loss of the season, as he allowed two runs and surrendered five walks through his two innings of duty.  Emes (3-1) struck out one and gave up two hits.

Game two morphed into a masterful pitcher's duel, as it remained scoreless all the way into an extra frame.  Senior outfielder Mike Visloski (McDonald, PA/West Allegheny) reached by way of a fielding error on the shortstop, and then advanced to second via a sacrifice bunt from senior second baseman Jason Paris (Houston, PA/Chartiers Houston).  Groff followed with the heroics, as his single to right field plated Visloski, who narrowly ducked under the catcher's tag.

Paris and Groff each had two hits, with sophomore shortstop Aaron McGee (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford) reaching base three times- he went 1-1 and drew two walks.  Sophomore right-hander Dan Laird (Munhall, PA/Steel Valley) polished a gem on the mound for Greater Allegheny, with the complete game, shutout victory.  Laird (2-1) scattered four hits, walked one, and struck out six Wildcat batters.

GA returns to the diamond this Saturday afternoon for a non-conference double-header with Mercyhurst North East.  Game one of the twin bill is set for 12 PM.
