Baseball Flexes Its Muscles in Two Wins Over Penn State Beaver

Butler, Pa- In a key double-header against PSUAC rival, Penn State Beaver, the Greater Allegheny (21-14, 12-2 PSUAC) baseball team picked up their fifth and sixth straight wins, as they compiled victories of 5-2 and 13-1 (5 innings).

GA trailed 2-1 heading into the home half of the fifth in game one, with freshman first baseman Jose Bonilla (Coto Laurel, PR/Academia Santa Maria)  leading off the frame with a single to center.  Sophomore shortstop Aaron McGee (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford) walked, and then both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt from senior catcher Josh Kubisz (Goose Creek, SC/Goose Creek).  Freshman outfielder Alente Johnson (Rochester, PA/Rochester) followed with a single, on which Bonilla scored on a throwing error.

A walk and an infield fly loaded the bases with two outs, bringing up sophomore outfielder Oliver Girman (Monroeville, PA/Serra Catholic).  Girman singled home two runs, giving Greater Allegheny a 4-2 lead.

Sophomore right-hander Dan Laird (Munhall, PA/Steel Valley) kept the Beaver bats silent over the remainder of game one, as GA's fifth run in the bottom of the sixth capped the 5-2 win.  Laird (3-2) went the distance, allowing two runs on just three hits.  He also struck out eight, while walking two.  Girman and McGee each had two hits, while Girman collected three RBI's.

Game two was essentially over before it started, as the Greater Allegheny bats exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the second inning, and then for five more in the following inning.  In the five inning win Johnson and Bonilla recorded three hits apiece, with Bonilla driving in a game-high four runs.  Senior outfielder Mike Visloski (McDonald, PA/West Allegheny) went 2-4 with two RBI's, as Girman recorded two RBI's as well.  Freshman left-hander Zach Krivda (McKeesport, PA/McKeesport) earned the five inning complete game, allowing the one run on two hits.  Krivda (6-0) struck out four and walked three.

Greater Allegheny enters the final weekend of its regular season, as they host Penn State Mont Alto in a pair of PSUAC games this Saturday afternoon.  Game one is set for 2 PM.
