GA Baseball Takes Split in a National Championship Rematch

Cincinnati, Ohio - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's baseball team split a double-header, Saturday afternoon, as GA found themselves in a USCAA National Championship rematch from last season with Cincinnati-Clermont.

The first game saw evenly matched competition through six innings, as both teams could not obtain a run. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Zach Krivda (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) allowed just three hits, one of them crossing home plate in the bottom of the sixth inning. Even though Greater Allegheny managed seven hits, the run would be the only one through the duration of the game - Cincinnati-Clermont taking the first in the Freedom Florence Sports Complex, 1-0.

Both senior infielder Adam Wehr (Orefield, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) and sophomore outfielder Jose Pablo Bonilla (Coto Laurel, Puerto Rico/Academia Santa Maria) were able to hit 2-for-2, boosting the Lions efforts. Senior designated hitter Sam Weightman (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) and freshman catcher Francisco Del Rio (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) connected on the at bat each of them had through the first game.

Game two saw junior right-handed pitcher Eddie Emes (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) on the mound for Greater Allegheny. Freshman infielder Brian Casiano (San Juan, Puerto Rico/International Baseball Academy) crossed home plate twice, as he hit 1-for-3. Junior outfielder Gianmarco Concepcion (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Mercyhurst North East) also added a run for Greater Allegheny alongside sophomore infielder Tommy Williams (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford). These four runs scored would prove enough for Greater Allegheny to take game two, 4-2. Emes would obtain his third win of the season, giving senior right-handed pitcher Eric Schell (Linesville, Pa./Mercyhurst North East) his second save.

Greater Allegheny (8-5) will play another double-header over Cincinnati-Clermont, Sunday afternoon, in the University of Cincinnati's Marge Schott Stadium. Game one will see its first pitch at 12 p.m.
