Bonilla Hammers Grand Slam to Advance Greater Allegheny Baseball over Garrett, 17-8

McHenry, Md. - Recording his fourth home run in four games, Penn State Greater Allegheny's sophomore outfielder Jose Pablo Bonilla (Coto Laurel, Puerto Rico/Academia Santa Maria) clocks a grand slam homer to lift the visiting team over Garrett (Md.), Wednesday afternoon, 17-8.

With senior infielder Adam Wehr (Orefield, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) reaching base on error, Bonilla hit a two-run homer to right field to bring Greater Allegheny ahead 2-0 within the first four batters. Senior outfielder Braedon Pennington (Punxsutawney, Pa./Mercyhurst), sophomore infielder Tommy Williams (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) and junior infielder Aaron McGee (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) loaded the bases as junior infielder Gianmarco Concepcion (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Mercyhurst North East) doubled, advancing to third base on an error by the catcher, sending all three runners home. Concepcion crossed home plate, extending the lead to 6-0, by an error. Bonilla singled Wehr to third before freshman catcher Francisco Del Rio (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) sent Wehr to drop the seventh run by the end of the second inning.

Garrett put up four runs in the bottom of the third, only one of them being earned. Greater Allegheny added more in the top of the fifth to continue Greater Allegheny's stride. Pennington singled, advancing to second on the throw, as he batted in both sophomore infielder Victor Monroig (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Juan Quirindongo) and freshman infielder Brian Casiano (San Juan, Puerto Rico/International Baseball Academy). McGee singled and grabbed an RBI as Pennington came home. Bonilla smacked another homer to right field, this time it being a grand slam, Greater Allegheny padding the lead, 14-4.

Garrett added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth as the seventh inning went silent. Both Del Rio and Monroig crossed home plate on a wild pitch in the top of the 8th, Greater Allegheny leading 16-7.

Garrett's Eubanks added the final tally for the home team in the bottom of the 8th as Bonilla takes the walk to home plate in top of the final inning. Greater Allegheny made the trip back from Maryland sitting atop a 17-8 victory, extending their record to 13-7.

Bonilla went 4-for-6 at the plate, earning himself three runs and six RBI's with two home runs. Monroig went 2-for-2, crossing the bag two times alongside an RBI. Del Rio went 3-for-5 at the bag, adding one run toward the Lions tally. Junior right-handed pitcher Matt Warhola (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Allegheny (Md.) takes his first win of the season on the mound, as he allowed two hits through two innings.

Greater Allegheny takes a few days rest before they make their roadtrip across the state to Penn State York for a Penn State University Athletic Conference match-up. The double-header on Saturday is set to see first pitch at 12:00 p.m.
