Greater Allegheny Baseball Advances to PSUAC Finals

Mont Alto, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's baseball team edged out Penn State Schyulkill, 4-3, Friday afternoon, in the semi-final match of the 2014 Penn State University Athletic Conference Tournament.

Greater Allegheny was the first on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Senior infielder Adam Wehr (Orefield, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) doubled to left center as sophomore outfielder Jose Pablo Bonilla (Coto Laurel, Puerto Rico/Academia Santa Maria) singled and batted Wehr across home plate, GA ahead 1-0.

Junior catcher Troy Ambros (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./West Browar) doubled to center field to start off the second inning before sophomore Bill Carter (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) came in to courtesy run, advancing to third on a wild pitch. Junior outfielder Gianmarco Concepcion (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Mercyhurst North East) singled up the middle, scoring Carter.

Schyulkill scored two in the top of the third inning, evening the tally at two. Schyulkill added another in the fourth, putting Greater Allegheny behind for the first time in the game.

Junior infielder Aaron McGee (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford) walked, advancing to second on a wild pitch. Bonilla singled up the middle to score McGee, squaring up with Schyulkill at three. Freshman Francisco Del Rio (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) doubled down the right field line, scoring Bonilla and taking the lead 4-3.

GA retained the lead through the final innings of play to advance their team (29-9, 19-0 PSUAC) to the Penn State University Athletic Conference finals to play Penn State Brandywine.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Zach Krivda (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) pitched for six innings in the contest, earning his sixth victory on the mound. Senior right-handed pitcher Eric Schell (Linesville, Pa./Mercyhurst North East) pitched his third save on the season, closing the final inning with no hits. 

Bonilla went 2-for-3 at the plate, batting two runs in and scoring one himself. Del Rio also went 2-for-3, batting one run home. 

Greater Allegheny will see Brandywine at 12 p.m. at Penn State Mont Alto for the conference finals.
