GA Baseball Falls 6-0 to Mercyhurst

Erie, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny men's baseball team traveled to Mercyhurst, Friday afternoon, to fall in a 6-0 battle in game one, only to have game two canceled due to inclement weather.

Mercyhurst was able to score three runs in the bottom of the first inning, putting Greater Allegheny in the back seat, 3-0.

GA was in scoring opportunity in the top of the third, as both senior Braedon Pennington (Punxsutawney, Pa./Mercyhurst) and freshman infielder Brian Casiano (San Juan, Puerto Rico/International Baseball Academy) singled and advanced a base on wild pitch. Two strike-outs in the top of the third closed the inning at zero.

Mercyhurst notched three more runs in the bottom of the sixth, leaving Greater Allegheny in a 6-0 rut. GA was unable to overcome through the seven inning bout, taking their tenth loss on the season.

Both senior infielder Aaron McGee (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) and Pennington went 1-for-2 at the plate on the day. Junior outfielder Gianmarco Concepcion (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Mercyhurst North East), junior catcher Troy Ambros (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./West Browar) and Casiano also recorded a hit.

Greater Allegheny (30-10, 20-0 PSUAC) looks onward to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Small College World Series on Monday, May 12 in Springfield, Illinois. The Lions will take on St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) on a 6:30 p.m. first pitch. You can keep up with Greater Allegheny as they continue on with post-season play.
