Greater Allegheny Baseball Makes the USCAA All-American & National All-Academic Teams

Springfield, Ill. – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association announced its 2014 Baseball All-American and National All-Academic teams on Sunday at the National Championship banquet in Springfield, Illinois. 

Senior infielder Adam Wehr (Orefield, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) and sophomore outfielder Jose Pablo Bonilla (Coto Laurel, Puerto Rico/Academia Santa Maria) were recognized as First Team All-Americans. Bonilla was tied for 13th overall in the USCAA with a batting average of .417 as Wehr sat just behind him in 15th with a batting average of .411. As of the banquet on May 11, Bonilla saw 120 at bats in 38 games, racking up 50 hits with 40 runs, 39 RBIs and nine doubles. Wehr saw 112 at bats in 35 games, hammering 46 hits with 24 runs, 26 RBIs and 13 doubles.

Sophomore left-handed pitcher Zach Krivda (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) and senior right-handed pitcher Braedon Pennington (Punxsutawney, Pa./Mercyhurst) were honored with Second Team All-Americans by the USCAA. Pennington sat 6-2 with an 1.57 ERA in 51.2 innings pitched throwing 62 strikes. Krivda also sat with a 6-2 record, as he had a 2.65 ERA in 53 innings pitched with 65 strikes.

Krivda alongside sophomore Bill Carter (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) and junior Matt Warhola (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Allegheny (Md.)) earned the National All-Academic Team accolade, as they upheld a 3.5 GPA or higher.

The 2014 USCAA Small College World Series kicks off on Monday morning at 8:30 am CST.  The Lions take the field at 6:30 pm CST when they face sixth-seeded St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn at Robin Roberts Stadium.
