Greater Allegheny Baseball Moves on to PSUAC Finals

Mont Alto, Pa. - With a 7-1 victory over Penn State Beaver, the Penn State Greater Allegheny baseball team advances to the Penn State University Athletic Conference Finals set for Friday, May 1.

The first inning went silent before Greater Allegheny came up to bat in the bottom of the second inning. Sophomore first baseman Joshua Arroyo (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Levittown Baptist Academy) walked before he stole second base. Sophomore designated hitter Francisco Del Rio (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) doubled to score Arroyo, GA up 1-0.

Beaver tied the game at one in the top of the third before Greater Allegheny came back to bat in the bottom of the fourth. Senior catcher Troy Ambros (Pembroke Pines, Fla./West Broward) walked before senior right-fielder Gianmarco Concepcion (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Mercyhurst North East) tripled to score Ambros. An Arroyo single scored Concepcion to five Greater Allegheny the 3-1 advantage. 

The bottom of the sixth inning brought more GA Lion tallies as the inning started with another Ambros triple. Concepcion singled to bring Ambros to score before he stole second base. Del Rio singled to bat in Concepcion. Sophomore left-fielder Mark Hollis (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) sacrifice flied out to center-field, nbatting in Arroyo. Freshman center-fielder Terance Wroniak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Carrick) singled to score sophomore second baseman Adam Jacko (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) to put Greater Allegheny ahead 7-1.

Senior right-handed pitcher Matt Klena (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area) pitched all seven innings for GA, as he faced 29 batters allowing just one run and sitting down six on strike-out. Concepcion went 3-for-3 at the plate, while scoring twice and batting in two RBIs. Arroyo went 2-for-2 with two runs tallied with one RBI. Del Rio batted 2-of-3 with a pair of RBIs.

With the win, the Penn State Greater Allegheny Lions (28-6, 18-0 PSUAC) will advance to the Penn State University Athletic Conference Championships, May 1st. The opponent and time is yet to be determined.
