Lions Squander Their First Nine-Inning Contest to John Wood CC, 12-2

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Through a scheduled nine-inning contest over John Wood Community College, the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's baseball team fell by a 12-2 margin in the second night of the Cal Ripken Experience.

John Wood CC managed 12 runs in the first three innings.

Senior catcher Francisco Del Rio (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) singled to left field in the top of the fifth inning to score both freshman pinch hitter Blake Flocker (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) and senior pinch hitter Alex Riley (Pittsburgh, Pa./John Marshall), 12-2 John Wood.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Matt Smith (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) let up four hits with two strike-outs while sophomore right-handed pitcher Max Whiteman (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) sat down three while allowing one hit.

Del Rio, sophomore infielder Dylan Finocchi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and sophomore center-fielder Dylan Ernst (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) all obtained hits through the contest.

Greater Allegheny (1-2) looks onward in their spring break trip to Wednesday, as the men play at Pelican Stadium against Rochester. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.
