Myrtle Beach, S.C. - In the final contest of the 2016-17 Penn State Greater Allegheny men's baseball spring break trip to the Cal Ripken Experience, the Lions fell in extra innings to Ancilla, 7-6.

Junior second-baseman Adam Jacko (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) scored the first run of the game after junior first baseman Joshua Arroyo (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Levvittown Baptist Academy) singled down the left field line. Senior outfielder Mark Hollis (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) then scored the second run of the game on a balk, 2-0 GA.

A run in each of the second and third innings tied the game up at two.

Ancilla scored one in the top of the inning before Greater Allegheny matched them in the bottom. Sophomore shortstop Dylan Finocchi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) slammed a sacrifice fly to center field to score Hollis, evening the tally once again. The teams now head into extra innings.

Ancilla was just too much to handle in the eighth inning, Greater Allegheny falling 6-3.

Hollis scored on a wild pitch before sophomore center-fielder Dylan Ernst (McKeesport, Pa./McKeeport) scored sophomore pinch hitter Max Whiteman (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin), 6-5 Ancilla. Sophomore outfielder Alex Myers (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) singled to center field to score Ernst, tying the game at six.

Ancilla managed a run off a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the narrow win, 7-6.

Junior right-handed pitcher Luke Padezan (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) saw 42 batters over a course of eight innings pitched, where he threw 89 strikes. Junior right-handed pitcher Daniel Daly (Glassport, Pa./South Allegheny) finished the game with two strike-outs on six batters.

Hollis hit 2-of-4 with three runs scored while Arroyo laid down 2-of-3 with one run batted in.

Greater Allegheny (1-4) look to head back to Pittsburgh and rest up before welcoming Point Park to Pullman Park in Butler for the first home game of the season. The double-header is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
