Lion Baseball Pens Two PSUAC Victories over New Kensington, 8-2 and 2-0

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Through the first Penn State University Athletic Conference contests of the season, the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's baseball team swiped two conference victories, Saturday afternoon, over Penn State New Kensington, 8-2 and 2-0.

Senior catcher Francisco Del Rio (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) singled in the bottom of the first to score junior second baseman Adam Jacko (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny), 1-0 GA.

Freshman outfielder Blake Flocker (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) singled to center-field to score both senior outfielder Mark Hollis (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and sophomore center-fielder Dylan Ernst (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport). Jacko singled to score Flocker, 4-0 Greater Allegheny. 

New Kensington managed their only runs of the day in the top of the fifth as the men noted two, 4-2.

The bottom of the fifth brought an Ernst walk to score sophomore pinch runner Marcos Lopez (Caglas, Puerto Rico/Ramey), who ran for Del Rio. Hollis singled to score both junior first baseman Joshua Arroyo (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Levittown Baptist Academy) and sophomore designated hitter Zach Craven (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport). Junior shortstop Zachary Pollack (Cecil, Pa./Canon-McMillan) singled to score Ernst, 8-2 Greater Allegheny after seven innings.

Junior right-handed pitcher Luke Padezan (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) threw a complete game, as the righty faced 30 batters over seven innings, sitting seven down on strike-out while allowing just five hits. With the win, Padezan secured his third win of the season.

Both Jacko and Del Rio hit 2-of-3 with an RBI, Jacko with a run scored. Hollis went 2-of-4 through game one with two RBI and one run.

Game two got going later in the game, as a run wasn't scored until the bottom of the fourth.

Ernst doubled to center-field to score Arroyo to put GA on top 1-0.

The bottom of the fifth brought an Arroyo single to score sophomore third baseman Dylan Finocchi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), 2-0 Lions.

Junior right-handed pitcher Daniel Daly (Glassport, Pa./South Allegheny) faced 24 batters through seven innings. Through his first win of the season, Daly sat down nine batters on strike-out while letting up just two hits.

Greater Allegheny (4-6, 2-0 PSUAC) looks to travel to Penn State New Kensington, Wednesday afternoon, for a nine-inning contest.
