38 Mercyhurst Runs Overthrow Greater Allegheny Baseball Through Two Games

Erie, Pa. - Through a pair of NCAA Division II contests over Mercyhurst, the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's baseball team fell in two-seven inning decisions by margins of 22-3 and 16-3.

Through game one, Mercyhurst managed to score runs in each of the first six innings, resulting in a 22-0 lead before Greater Allegheny got on the board.

Junior first baseman Joshua Arroyo (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Levittown Baptist Academy) doubled to score junior second baseman Adam Jacko (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny). Sophomore designated hitter Zach Craven (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) batted home freshman third baseman Pedro Escobar (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy). Junior center-fielder Dylan Ernst (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) sacrifice flied out to right-field to score Arroyo, 22-3.

Junior right-handed pitcher Luke Padezan (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) faced 31 batters over four innings, sitting down three on strike-out.

Escobar went 2-for-3 with one run scored while six others posted a hit each. Arroyo went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Greater Allegheny was first on the board to start game two after junior right-handed pitcher Daniel Daly (Glassport, Pa./South Allegheny) sat the first three batter down on strike-out. Ernst walked to push home senior outfielder Mark Hollis (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) to score. Junior shortstop Zachary Pollack (Cecil, Pa./Canon-McMillan) singled to bat home both Arroyo and Craven, 3-0 GA.

Five runs in the third and six in the fourth resulted in a quick 11-3 turnaround for Mercyhurst. Five more runs in the final two innings sent GA home with a 16-3 final score.

Daly threw the complete game, as he faced 46 batters over seven innings. The junior sat down five on strike-out.

Pollack hit 2-for-3 with two runs batted in while Arroyo went 1-for-2 with one run scored.

Greater Allegheny (5-8, 3-0 PSUAC) looks to continue Penn State University Athletic Conference action against Penn State DuBois, Sunday afternoon. The first pitch of the double-header at Showers Field at 1 p.m.
