Early Lead Results in Late Game Slip over DuBois, 10-3

Washington, Pa. - In a contest that went to extra innings, the Penn State Greater Allegheny men's baseball team stumbled in the tenth inning over Penn State University Athletic Conference adversary, Penn State DuBois, Wednesday afternoon, by a margin of 10-3.

Greater Allegheny managed a three-run jump in the bottom of the first inning.

Sophomore designated hitter Zach Craven (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) walked to first base to score junior second baseman Adam Jacko (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny). Sophomore center-fielder Dylan Ernst (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) singled up the middle to score both junior first baseman Joshua Arroyo (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Levittown Baptist Academy) and junior shortstop Zachary Pollack (Cecil, Pa./Canon-McMillan), 3-0 GA.

The lead lasted until the top of the fourth, when DuBois created three runs an tied the game for the remainining six innings, sending the two teams into extra time.

Bases on balls converted to be the demise of Greater Allegheny, sending DuBois home with the 10-3 victory.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Matt Smith (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) pitched nine innings of action, sitting down four of hit 37 batters faced down on strike-out.

Pollack hit 2-of-4 with one run while Arroyo, Craven, Ernst and freshman right-fielder Blake Flocker (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) posted hits through the contest.

Greater Allegheny (5-11, 3-3 PSUAC) looks to travel to Penn State Mont Alto to continue PSUAC action. Thursday brings a double-header first-pitch at 2 p.m.
