Myrtle Beach, SC – After opening up their 2018 season against Mercyhurst, the Penn State Greater Allegheny Baseball Team (0-1, 0-0) starts a week-long trip to the Cal Ripken Experience at Myrtle Beach. They kick off their week of games taking on Chatham University (1-2, 0-0) at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

PSUGA is coming off a game where they put up nine runs on 12 hits against an undefeated Mercyhurst Team. They got big contributions from their senior leaders at the top of the lineup with Adam Jacko (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) and Zack Pollack (Cecil, Pa./Cannon-McMillan) each going 2-4 and driving in two runs in the game.

After being shut out for the first four innings of the game, they came back and scored at least one run in each of the last five innings. Their biggest success of the day came in the top of the sixth with two outs. They strung together four straight two-out hits and put up four runs in the inning.

David West (Hempfield, Pa./Hempfield) got his first start in a PSUGA uniform and after giving up just one run in the first, he got tagged for seven second inning runs before exiting the ball game. Zach Ramfos (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) would follow and wouldn’t serve much better giving up nine runs on 10 hits in his two innings of work. Matt Smith (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) and Matt Givler (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) combined to throw the final four innings and gave up three and one run respectively.

Chatham is coming off a doubleheader on Sunday where they took on Penn College and Penn State Harrisburg. They won game one of the double header 7-2 and used a late rally to secure the victory. After leading 3-1 through the first seven innings, they erupted for five runs in the top of the eighth and were able to hold on for their first win of the season.

This is the first time these two teams have matched up in program history. Over the last two seasons playing in Myrtle Beach, PSUGA has a combined record of 3-9 and are looking to improve upon that this season. They showed great offensive ability in their first game of the year and look to continue to build on it throughout the season.

Probable: Luke Padezan (0-0, 0.00) First Start of the Season

Luke Padezan makes his first start of the season for PSUGA tomorrow coming off one of his best seasons in a Lion’s uniform. Padezan pitched to a career best 4.28 ERA while going 5-4 in nine starts for the Lions. He is one of two veteran leaders on the staff with a career record of 11-10 over his four seasons and an Era of 5.98 in 29 career outings.

First pitch for Tuesday’s game is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
