McKeesport, PA. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Baseball Team (6-10, 3-2) is looking to build momentum heading down the stretch towards the Penn State University Athletic Conference Playoff Race when they battle Penn State Fayette (1-6, 0-4) on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. PSUGA has split each of their last two doubleheaders against PSU-DuBois and PSU-Mont Alto and find themselves in fourth place in the PSUAC West.
Josh Arroyo (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Levittown Baptist Academy) powered PSUGA’s offense on Friday going a combined 3-7 with one home run and four RBI. In game one of the doubleheader, Arroyo hit his first home run of the year and added a two RBI double, but PSUGA fell 5-4. Arroyo did not slow down in game two going 1-3 with an RBI and helping the team capture their third conference win of the season defeating Mont Alto 5-1.
Arroyo wasn’t the only one firing on all cylinders in game two as Daniel Daly (Glassport, PA./South Allegheny) continued his dominance on the mound. He threw a complete game allowing just one earned run on six hits while striking out four on the way to his third win of the season. Over his last two starts, Daly has gone 2-0 with an ERA of 1.28 and is off to the best start to a season in his PSUGA career.
PSUGA currently sits in fourth place in the PSUAC West and is vying for their fifth playoff appearance in the last eight seasons. They have split each of their last six conference games, going 3-3 over that stretch, and are looking to gain some more momentum when they battle a Penn State Fayette team that they have already seen once this season.
PSU-Fayette has gotten off to a rough start in 2018 going just 1-6 and losing each of their last five contests. Their last time out, they never got any momentum going when they dropped an 18-0 contest to PSU-DuBois. Fayette collected two hits in the game courtesy of Kody Thomas and Russell Ritenour, but that is all they could muster falling to DuBois.
Earlier this season, PSUGA defeated PSU-Fayette on the road picking up a 4-1 win. Daly got the start in that game and threw a complete game allowing just one earned run in the win. Hunter Hughes (Murrysville, PA./Franklin Regional) had his best game of the year against Fayette going 1-2 with a walk and two RBI. PSUGA owns the all-time series record against Fayette going 10-1 against them since the 2010-2011 season.
First pitch for Tuesday’s game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on the campus of Penn State Fayette. The game had to be moved from Pullman Park due to a scheduling conflict and will now be a single, seven innings, game.
