Baseball and Softball Crack Top 20 in Weekly USCAA Poll

McKeesport, PA. – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association released their weekly Coaches Poll on Wednesday and both Penn State Greater Allegheny Baseball and Softball have made the list. PSUGA Baseball was ranked #13 in the nation on the week three list while PSUGA Softball ranked #15 on the top twenty list. Both teams are vying for a playoff spot and they are getting rewarded for their strong play.

The PSUGA Baseball team has been on fire as of late winning five of their last seven games while scoring 70 runs over that seven-game span. They find themselves in second place in the Penn State University Athletic Conference West Division with a record of 7-4 as they hold a one game lead over PSU-Mont Alto.

Their last game was a 14-13 loss in 11 innings to PSU-DuBois in which PSUGA was able to comeback and take the lead three times before the decisive blow ended the game in the bottom of the 11th. PSUGA collected 12 hits to go along with seven walks in the game and were led by Zack Pollack’s (Cecil, PA./Cannon-McMillan) 4-6 effort.

PSUGA Softball was able to get back on track on Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep against PSU-DuBois where they won both games 17-1. The win snapped a five-game losing streak and sets PSUGA at 9-5 in conference play and a third-place spot in the Penn State University Athletic Conference West Division Standings.

Lacie Lautner (Pleasant Hills, PA./Thomas Jefferson) has been the driving force to this seasons team with her .411 average which is good for the team lead. Tara Love (Chandler, AZ./Campo Verde HS) has also been on fire as of late hitting .434 (10-23) in her last seven ball games including a 4-8 effort against PSU-DuBois on Wednesday.

PSUGA Baseball and Softball are both back in action on Friday when they take on PSU-New Kensington. First pitch for both team’s doubleheaders are scheduled for 2 p.m. with the second games following right after at 4 p.m.
