Rain Cancels Baseball vs. Grove City

McKeesport, PA. – With Sunday’s strong storm system and rain moving through the area on Monday morning, the Penn State Greater Allegheny Baseball team has cancelled their game with Grove City that was scheduled for Tuesday at 3 p.m. With the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoff push coming to a head this weekend, it gives PSUGA some time to rest before the three biggest games of the season.

PSUGA is coming off of a series loss at the hands of PSU-Beaver, however, they were able to salvage the last game of the series with a come from behind 9-6 win. After being down 5-3 entering the seventh inning of the second game of the doubleheader, PSUGA went on a rally scoring six runs and taking a 9-5 lead. Beaver scored one run in the bottom half but Jordan Williams (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport HS) was able to shut them down from there helping his team pick up the victory.

Dylan Ernst (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport HS), who extended his record on-base streak to 19 straight games, led the way on offense going 2-4 with two RBI in the win. His on-base streak is the longest active streak by anyone in the PSUAC and has helped keep PSUGA in the playoff picture throughout the season. Brian Koglin (Fox Chapel, Pa./Fox Chapel HS) also had a good day reaching base three times going 2-2 with a hit by pitch.

PSUGA enters the weekend still very much in the playoff race with one PSUAC series remaining against PSU-New Kensington. They currently sit one game behind PSU-Fayette for the final playoff spot as Fayette enters a three-game series with PSU-Mont Alto. PSUGA has to win one more game in their series then Fayette does in order to secure a playoff spot.

First pitch for Friday’s series opener with Penn State New Kensington is currently scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. when PSUGA will be celebrating their senior day. The game will be played at No-Offseason sports in Tarentum, PA. located at 1590 Saxonburg Boulevard.
