The Penn State greater Allegheny baseball team (2-0, 0-0) picked up two big wins on Saturday when they swept their double-header with Westmoreland County Community College (0-2,0-0) winning the first game 16-0 and following that up with a 5-2 win. PSUGA showed just how strong their offense can be and their pitching held WCCC to just two runs.

The first game saw PSUGA get going right from the start. Jordan Williams (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport) started the game with a triple to right center field and was brought in one batter later when Brett Yuhas singled to left. PSUGA would put out three more runs in the inning and led 3-0 after one.

That was more than enough run support for starting pitcher Matt Smith (North Versailles, PA./East Allegheny) who went four shutout innings giving up just two hits and striking out three to earn his first win of 2019.

After a 5 run bottom of the third, PSUGA lead 8-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth. That is when they put the game out of reach putting up an 8 spot to jump out to a 16-0 lead. Williams had the big hit coming up with the bases loaded and no outs. He would crush a ball to the right-center field Gap clearing the bases.

Williams finished game one 4-4 with five RBIs leading his team to Victory. The game one victory was a big confidence boost for PSUGA to PSUGA as they headed into game two.

The second game what's a tighter contest as PSUGA would have to scratch and claw to get runs early on. PSUGA would once again get out to an early lead as WCCC pitcher Jordan Bertnesky walked the bases loaded with nobody out.

Zac Craven (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport) would then lift a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Williams and putting PSUGA ahead 1-0. WCCC threatened to get back into the game In the top of the third when they loaded the bases with nobody out.

Matt Givler (Coatesville, PA./Clarksville HS) would then get out of trouble getting two strikeouts and a ground out to leave The Bases Loaded Givler would finish the day going four innings giving up four hits while walking one and striking out seven.

The score would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the Third. Williams would start the inning with a single and Pedro Escobar (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, Carlos Beltram Baseball Academy) would drive him in with a double to the left-center field wall. One batter later Craven would drive him in with an RBI single through the hole on the left side PSUGA increase their lead to 3-0.

After WCCC put up a run in the top of the sixth, PSUGA responded with two more in the bottom half on an RBI triple by Brian Koglin (Fox Chapel, PA./Fox Chapel) and a fielder's choice by Hunter Hughes (Myrrysville, PA./Feabklon Regional) that put PSUGA up 5-2 after six.

Wccc score one more in the top of the seventh but didn't have enough to overtake PSUGA. Williams finished his day going to for 3 and scoring two runs to wrap up his big day.

PSUGA now starts 2019 2-0 and has momentum before their trip to Myrtle Beach next week. Head coach Kenny Creehan wants them to continue to work on their patience as they get ready for conference play.

PSUGA has one more test before their Myrtle Beach trip when they take on Geneva College next Saturday at 12 p.m. At Pullman Park
