Sweeps Galore as PSUGA Starts 3-0 in PSUAC Play

Butler, PA. - After picking up a 9-7 win in their Penn State University Athletic Conference opener on Friday, the series shifted to Butler, PA. When Penn State Greater Allegehny Baseball (8-5, 3-0) took on Penn State Fayette (2-11, 0-3) on Sunday afternoon at Pullman Park. PSUGA would pick up a season series sweep of Fayette sweeping the doubleheader with wins of 6-4 and 7-4.

In both games, the pitching kept PSUGA in the ball game and the offense picked them up doing whatever was necessary to pick up the win. All nine guys up and down the lineup contributed and gave PSUGA the boost they needed as they start 3-0 in conference play.

In game one, PSUGA got off to a fast start after Blake Flocker (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport HS) drew a one out walk putting a runner on for PSUGA. Brett Yuhas (Munhall, PA./Steel Valley HS) would then start his big day lining an RBI single and putting PSUGA ahead early 1-0.

It was a similar formula for PSUGA in the third inning as they once again got a runner on via a single from Dlyan Ernst (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport HS). This time it would be Zack Craven (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport HS) who came through with the RBI single netting PSUGA's second run of the day.

Their big inning in game one came in the bottom of the fourth when they put up four runs and pulled away from Fayette for good. After a Flocker triple started the inning, Ernst reached on a walk to put two on for Brian Koglin (Fox Chapel, PA./Fox Chapel HS). Koglin would promptly single up the middle scoring Flocker and putting PSUGA ahead 3-2.

Yuhas would then double home Ernst before Diego Marzan (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Leadership Christian Academy) came through with his first collegiate RBI lining a single to right scoring Ernst and pushing the PSUGA lead to 6-2.

Fayette would keep the fight going to the end bringing the score to 6-4 and loading the bases with one out in the top of the 7th. That's when Timmy Gallegos (Oakland Park, FL./Northeast HS) came up big defensively making a diving catch and doubling up the runner at first ending the threat and giving PSUGA the game one victory.

Game two saw a similarly fast start for PSUGA after Fayette got on the board in the top of the first as Jordan Williams (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport HS) did it all himself in the bottom half. He singled to lead things off for PSUGA and went on to steal three straight bases, including a steal of home, to tie the game at 1-1.

Base running would put PSUGA on the board once again in the bottom of the second after a Yuhas triple to start the inning. PSUGA would once again take a chance amd Yuhas would successfully steal home giving PSUGA a 2-1 lead.

Yuhas would once again come through in the third after an RBI single by Marzan as he lifted a two run shot to put PSUGA ahead for good. It was Yuhas's first of his collegiate career and all but assured the sweep of the doubleheader by PSUGA.

After dropping their final three non-conference games last week, PSUGA bounced back today to start a three game winning streak of their own. It is now full steam ahead with one non-conference matchup remaining before they head to Dubois next week.

The PSUGA Baseball team is back in action when they go on the road on Thesday to take on CCAC-Boyce. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
