Play-in Games Set as PSUAC Playoffs Kick-off Friday

McKeesport, PA. – After the Penn State Greater Allegheny Baseball Team (13-13, 8-7) clinched the #3 seed in the Penn State University Athletic Conference West Division on Monday, the field is set for the 2019 PSUAC Baseball Playoffs. Play-in games are set to take place on Saturday, April 26th, followed by the semi-finals and Championship which will take place at Penn State DuBois on Sunday May 5th and Monday May 6th.

The top three teams from each division make the tournament with the #2 and #3 seed on each side meeting up for a play-in game. All games in the tournament will be one seven-inning game. The first-round is a one and done scenario followed by a double elimination tournament in the semifinal and championship rounds.

After clinching the #3 seed in the PSUAC West on Monday, PSUGA earned themselves a first-round trip to Mont Alto, PA. to take on #2 seeded Penn State Mont Alto. PSU-DuBois claimed the top seed in the division by way of sweeping Penn State Beaver in a doubleheader on Monday night giving them the first-round bye and an automatic ticket to the double elimination portion of the bracket.

During the regular season, PSUGA took two out of the three match-ups from Mont Alto dropping the first two contests 8-0 and 5-1 and coming back for a 4-3 win in the finale. As he has all season long, Dylan Ernst (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport HS) led the way going 5-10 (.500) in the series with five RBI. PSUGA will be looking to bring what they had in the final game of the series as they look to avenge a first-round elimination in last year’s tournament and get to DuBois.

In the PSUAC East division playoffs, #3 seeded PSU-Brandywine will travel to #2 seeded PSU-Schuylkill for their first round playoff game. Coming off one of the best seasons in school history, PSU-Wilkes Barre grabbed the #1 seed and will be headed to PSU-DuBois for the double elimination tournament. After finishing the season tied at 10-5 in conference play, Schuylkill got the nod as the #2 seed via tie breaker after taking two out of three from Brandywine earlier in the season.

As the team’s get set to kick-off PSUAC tournament play this weekend, everyone will be looking to take down the defending PSUAC Champions from 2018 in PSU-DuBois. It will be tough for DuBois to repeat as the conference has seen a brand new champion each of the last four seasons with DuBois, Mont Alto, Beaver, and PSUGA each taking a title during that span.

The PSUAC East will have their play-in game on Friday April 26th at 1 p.m. while PSUGA will take on PSU-Mont Alto on Saturday April 27th at 2:30 p.m.
