![A Full Moon, a No Hitter, and, oh, Playoffs?](/sports/bsb/2020-21/photos/0005/BB-18_650x475.jpg?max_width=450)
(Butler, PA)
A full moon, a no-hitter, and a post season qualification on the line.
That was all part of some of the many incredible moments in last night's/early morning doubleheader at Pullman Park.
Greater Allegheny needed 1 win and they would qualify for the PSUAC playoffs as the number 3 seed in the West.
It wouldn't be easy.
Game 1 was a scrappy back and forth contest that ended in an 11-10 win for Penn State Fayette.
Fayette got out to an early 3-0 lead and it was like two boxers trading blows the rest of the way.
(More on game 1 when full stating becomes available).
Win and you're in, right?
Game 2 would be the most bizarre no-htter anyone may have witnessed.
Yes, GA gave up 7 runs but none of them came from hits. It was a night of pitching changes, bounced balls, walks, and a test of endurance as the game stretched late into the night/ early morning ending after 1am.
Did we mention it was a full moon?
GA got on the board first with a Brett Yuhas (Munhall, PA/ Steel Valley HS) home run in the bottom of the 1st to right field.
Fayette would draw even in the top of the 2nd. They would extend their lead to 7-5 going into the bottom of the 6th.
That's when there was a seismic shift.
An 8-run inning with six hits would allow GA to pull away and not look back for a 14-7 win and spot in the PSUAC post-season.
Notes: Jordan Willams (Mckeesport, PA/ Mckeesport HS) had 3 hits in game 2.
GA travels to Mont Alto (they earned the # 1 seed) to take on Penn State DuBois on May 1, 12:30pm for the opening round of the PSUAC playoffs.
