McKeesport, Pa. – Coming off of one of the craziest games all season long, the Penn State Greater Allegheny Men’s Basketball Team (10-5, 5-2) will look to keep riding the momentum when they take on Penn State Fayette (7-7, 4-3) on Tuesday. The 115 points scored by PSUGA was a season high as they battled Penn State University Athletic Conference leader Penn State Brandywine to double overtime.
After the teams tied at the end of regulation 83-83, they would trade blows in the first overtime period. PSUGA took a three-point lead with :14 seconds remaining in the period, but a three-pointer with two second to go by Brandywine forced another overtime period. PSUGA would eventually take the game going on an 8-0 run that pushed the game just out of reach of Brandywine.
Jeremy McMunn (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) had his best game of the season putting up 26 points in his return to the starting lineup. McMunn had spent the previous five games on the bench, where he averaged 10 PPG. McMunn was 5-11 from the three-point line and shot 45% from the field on the day.
Jordan Payne (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) also returned to form putting up a team leading 33 points in the game. Payne continues to climb the ladder in terms of PPG currently leading the team with 22.5. Payne moved up to third in PPG in all of the PSUAC sitting behind New Kensington’s Dorian Broadwater, 23.8, and Schuylkill’s Kody Jacoby, 29.7. Makis Rivera (Pittsburgh, Pa./Imani Christian Academy) contributed big off the bench scoring 16 points in the contest, falling just two shy of his season high.
PSUGA currently sits in fourth place in the PSUAC but, with everyone sitting at two conference losses, they have a chance to still make a push for that top spot. They currently sit behind Brandywine, PSU-Wilkes Barre, and PSU-York and with games remaining against two of those three teams, there is still time for them to push for that top spot.
PSU-Fayette comes into this game having stumbled losing back-to-back contests against PSU-York and PSU-Mont Alto. In their game with Mont Alto, they fell behind 37-33 at halftime and although they outscored Mont A lot 39-37 in the second half, it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback. London Hoxie scored 21 points to lead his team in the game.
Fayette has caused PSUGA some problems in the past with a record of 9-4 against them since the 2011/2012 season. However, PSUGA has won three out of the last four contests including a season series sweep last season when they won by scores of 84-78 and 94-77.
Tip-off for Tuesday’s game is scheduled for 8 p.m. as the second game of a Men’s and Women’s Basketball doubleheader. It will be the final road game of the season for PSUGA as they finish the season with their final eight game being played at home.
