Flemming Buzzer Beater Gives PSUGA Huge Win Over Brandywine

McKeesport, PA. – It came down to the literal last second on Saturday as Koran Flemming (Wilkinsburg, PA./Westinghouse HS) lifted his team over Penn State Brandywine (12-8, 8-6) to a 68-65 win with a buzzer beating three-pointer. The shot gave PSUGA their third win in a row and a huge boost towards the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs.

The game was tied 65-65 with 48 seconds remaining as the back and forth started. Both teams got huge stops and Brandywine had the ball in their hands with 17 seconds left on the clock, After missing a shot George Prota (Elizabeth, PA./Elizabeth Forward HS) grabbed the rebound and sent it to Flemming. As time was running out, he launched it a couple steps in front of the half court line and it went in giving PSUGA the 68-65 victory.

The shot completed a 34 point second half where PSUGA battled from down nine points at half to retake the lead on a 13-0 run with just over eight minutes remaining on the game clock. Brandywine had been in control before that point scoring 43 in the first half to get their lead. After a couple of big halftime adjustments, it was PSUGA who came out strong and finished it off with a win.

Flemming led the way with his second big game of the weekend scoring 22 points including the big buzzer beating shot. Teammate Jordon Payne (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport HS) followed with 15 while Jeiron Lewis (Glassport, PA./South Allegheny HS) added 11 points of his own. Payne also led the defense with eight rebounds on the afternoon.

For Flemming, this was the biggest game of his PSUGA career and it helps lower PSUGA’s magic number to clinch a PSUAC playoff spot to two. They could have a chance to clinch their fourth straight playoff spot on Monday if PSU-DuBois falls in their matchup with Lehigh Valley this afternoon.

The men return to action with a big game against PSU-Wilkes Barre on Monday at 8 p.m. as the second half of a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader.
