Hot Streak Keeps Men at #18 in USCAA Poll

McKeesport, PA. – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association released their first coach’s poll of 2019 on Wednesday and the Penn State Greater Allegheny Men’s Basketball team (7-4, 4-3) used a hot streak to stay at #18 this week. Ever since dropping three of their first four conference games, PSUGA has come back and won their last three games getting themselves back in the heat of the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoff race.

Before the poll was released yesterday, the men picked up an exciting 81-76 overtime win over PSU-Beaver that brought them back to .500 in conference play. After working to a 65-65 tie at the end of regulation, PSUGA would go on an 8-0 run to start the overtime period that was enough to hold off Beaver and earn them a victory.

Antonio Hill (West Mifflin, PA./West Mifflin HS) stepped up in a big way for PSUGA putting up 24 points in the win. On a night where Beaver was double covering PSUGA’s top scorer Jordon Payne (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport HS) Hill stepped up and provided the offensive support that his guys needed to pick up the victory. After going through a stretch where the team could not score over 70 points, the win on Monday marked the second straight game that PSUGA scored at least 81 points.

While their luck has turned around in the standings, their luck in the division has turned around as well. PSUGA entered December sitting in fifth place in the PSUAC West Division and looking like they were going to fall out of the playoff race. However, they have turned it around winning their last three games and climbing to third place in the division and sitting well in the push for the playoffs. With 12 conference games still left on the schedule, PSUGA will be looking to make a push for one of the top two spots in the division.

PSUGA returns to action trying to make it four wins in a row when they take on PSU-New Kensington on Saturday at 3 p.m.
