After Magic Weekend, PSUGA Looks to Make it Four in a Row

McKeesport, PA. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny Men's Basketball team (12-5, 10-4) conjured up some magic over the weekend and went 2-0 pushing their win streak to three straight. They will look to keep that magic going when they take on Penn State Wilkes Barre on Monday at 8 p.m.

It literally came down to the final seconds on Saturday as PSUGA got a half court buzzer beater from Koran Flemming (Wilkinsburg, PA./Westinghouse HS) to pick up a 68-65 win over PSU-Brandywine. After an early battle, PSUGA found themselves down by nine points.

They battled back throughout the second half and took the lead with 10 minutes left on the clock. Brandywine would tie things up with under a minute to go and Flemming got the ball in his hands with two seconds to go leading to the hail Mary play that won the game for PSUGA.

Flemming led the way with a career high 22 points capping off a weekend where he combined to score 40 points in two games. Teammate Jordon Payne (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport HS) followed him up with 15 points and led the defense with eight rebounds.

The win moved PSUGA to 10-4 in conference play and got them one step closer to their fourth straight trip to the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoff tournament. Their magic number now sits at two as they could clinch that trip sometime this week

For Penn State Wilkes Barre, the weekend wasn't so full of magic. They suffered their first PSUAC loss of the season to PSU-Mont Alto 86-82. The two teams were tied after one half and Mont Alto pulled out to an 83-82 lead with under a minute to play. They would go on to score the final three points of the game handing Wilkes Barre their first defeat of the season.

Levaughn Knight-Soles led the way with 17 points and 14 rebounds for PSU-Wilkes Barre and was one of three players to finish in double digits. It was the first time Wilkes Barre has fallen this season on the road to the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs.

The all-time matchup has been pretty even in nine previous matchups with PSUGA having a trcord of 4-5. Last season's matchup was a defensive battle that PSUGA won 45-44. Payne led the way off the bench with 10 points in the win.

Tip-off for Monday's game is scheduled for 8 p.mp.m. as the second half of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader. You can watch the action live at bit.ly/PSUGAYT.
