50 point second half leads Men to Conference Win

McKeesport, PA. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny Men's Basketball team (4-1, 1-1) used a 50 point second half in a bounce back victory defeating PSU-Hazleton on Friday 70-65. PSUGA continued their strong defensive effort holding the opposition to under 70 points for the third straight game.

PSUGA started off strong scoring the first eight points of the game before allowing Hazleton to get on the board. After extending their lead to 14-8 Hazleton started fighting back and made it a one point game with six minutes left in the first half.

Hazleton went on am 8-2 run to jump out to a 33-25 lead and held on for the rest of the half time lead. It was the second straight game that PSUGA found themselves down at halftime and were looking to find a way back into the game. It would be the PSUGA offense that came through and brought PSUGA back into the game.

PSUGA started the second half on a 6-2 run to take a 41-40 lead early in the half. PSUGA would never turn back holding the lead for the rest of the game and pulled out a 85-70 win to pick up their first conference win of the season.

Kenny Rouse (Duquesne, PA./West Mifflin HS) had his best showing in a PSUGA uniform scoring 32 points in the win. Koran Flemming (Pittsburgh, PA./Westinghouse HS) made his first start of the season and scored 12 point in the win. PSUGA got a majority of their points from the starters with the bench only contributing 13 of the teams 85 points. All five starters finished the day in double digits in the win.

The win gives PSUGA some confidence after a tough luck loss to open conference play. After being the number one seed a year ago, PSUGA os trying to get back to the Penn State University Athletic Conference Playoffs for the fourth straight season.

PSUGA finishes up their PSUAC weekend doubleheader when they take on PSU-Schuylkill tomorrow at 3 p.m.
