Uniontown, PA. – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association announced their annual All-American Awards as part of championship weekend on Sunday and the Penn State Greater Allegheny Men’s Basketball team had one honoree. For the third straight year, it was Jordon Payne (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport HS) that picked up the honor picking up second-team All-American honors for leading his team’s offense this season.
While it was a wild wide for the team, Payne stayed consistent with his offensive numbers averaging just under 19 points per game while finishing with a team high 75 assists and 65 rebounds in his senior season. The 2018-19 season marked the second year in a row where Payne put up more then 400 points in a season finishing with 452. He also ended his PSUGA career as the second leading scorer in program history finishing with 1760 career points, just 86 points behind the career leader Anthony Rivers who finished with 1846 career points.
Payne is the only player in PSUGA history to make the playoffs in each of his four seasons and leaves the program with six program records under his belt including three-pointers made, three-pointers attempted, steals, and games played among others. He helped to usher in a winning culture at PSUGA and leaves the program hoping to set the foundation for a successful program for years to come.
Payne has been honored as an all-American in each of his last three seasons. Last season, he was a first-team all-American for a career year and in his sophomore season, he earned second-team all-American honors. As one of the best athletes to ever cross through the PSUGA Men’s Basketball program, Payne has a lot to look forward to as he moves on in his personal and basketball career.
Head coach Tyler Care and his team will have some big shoes to fill next season, but with some of the young stars showing glimpses of greatness last season, Care will be looking for some of them to step up and play a bigger role next season. PSUGA heads into a long off-season with a lot of work to do and a bright future ahead of them.
