Taylor Coccia Named USCAA Woman’s Golfer of the Week

McKeesport, PA. – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association announced its weekly awards on Tuesday and PSUGA Golfer Taylor Coccia (Elizabeth, PA./Elizabeth Forward HS) has been named the USCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week. Coccia was the lone woman representative for the PSUGA Golf team in their first tournament since 2011 when they traveled to the White Course Invitational at University Park.

Coccia held her own in the tournament finishing the day shooting a 107 and finishing second among all PSUGA golfers. Although the first two holes gave her some trouble, Coccia was able to battle back and finish strong. Her one par on the day came on hole number 10 and she was also able to finish with six bogeys.

One of the most exciting plays of the day for Coccia came on her fifth hole as she was on her comeback. She was able to chip one in from about 40 feet away getting her back on track. She ended up finishing one over par on that hole and would stay right around that mark for the rest of the tournament.

Head Coach Tyler Care was proud of Coccia’s performance in the first run of the season and looks forward to how she will improve as the season progresses.

Coccia came to PSUGA from Elizabeth Forward High School where she lettered in golf all four-years and was a standout on the Warriors Golf Team. She brought her talents to PSUGA excited about the revitalized golf program and wants to make her mark right away on both the Penn State University Athletic Conference and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.

Coccia and her team will hit the course once again on Saturday September 15th when they travel to Penn State Fayette for the PSU-Fayette Invitational. Tee time for the tournament is set for 10 a.m.
