Golf Releases 2019 Schedule in Second Season

McKeesport, PA. – Preparations for the 2019 Penn State Greater Allegheny Athletics Season continued Thursday when the Golf team released their 2019 season schedule on Thursday. After a six-year hiatus, the Penn State Greater Allegheny Athletics Department brought back the Golf team during the 2018 season. They received national recognition earning a United States Collegiate Athletic Association Golfer of the Week Award while reestablishing the winning tradition of the program.

One year later, they have a new head coach and a team of five golfers as they try to make their way back to the Penn State University Athletic Conference championships. Taking the reigns is Mark Valko, who spent last year as the head golf coach at Penn State New Kensington and brings over 20 years of coaching experience to PSUGA.

The 2019 season features five golf invitationals all leading up to the championships on October 8th and 9th at University Park. They start their season at State College on September 6th for the annual White Course Invitational. Then, they head home to play a series of conference invitationals starting with the PSU-DuBois Invitational on September 9th.

They make trips to PSU-Fayette and PSU-New Kensington on September 14th and September 17th before ending their season back at State College on September 23rd at the Blue Course Invitational. From there, any golfers who average a score of 100 per 18-hole course will qualify for the PSUAC/USCAA National Invitational on October 8th and 9th.

Taylor Coccia (Elizabeth, PA./Elizabeth Forward HS) serves as the lone returner for the PSUGA Golf team as she looks to provide leadership. Last season, she was the top golfer for PSUGA averaging a 109 through the course of the season. She was also named the USCAA Golfer of the Week on September 11th 2018.
