PSUGA To Compete at Dubois Invitational

McKeesport, PA. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny Golf team continues the 2019 season when they head to the PSU-DuBois Invitational on Monday at 10 a.m. They had a successful run in their first competition of the season with three different golfers scoring 85 and under.

They played the White Course Invitational last Friday which has often been called the hardest course at University Park. They finished in 10th place out of the 12 team field with a team score of 958. It was a strong start for a team that is only in its second season of competition.

Leading the way for PSUGA was freshman Justin Wortman (Ashburn, PA./Briar Woods HS). He shot an 81 on the par 72 course and posted a tie for the 13th lowest time over the field of 80 golfers.

Wortman's tee shots were what led to his success setting him up for a shorter game as he approached the green. It was a successful first match for the Freshman and he will continue to grow from there.

Senior Bert Hinton (Richmond, VA./Benedictine College Prep) and freshman Sean Murphy (Churchill, PA./Woodland Hills HS) were the other two golfers to finish under 85 scoring 84 and 82 respectively. Both had big days setting the mark for a great season.

Sophomore Taylor Coccia (Elizabeth, PA./Elizabeth Forward HS) and freshman Angie Nylander (Elizabeth, PA./Elizabeth Forward HS) were part of a historic day on the women's side of the field were they had a record seven competitors. Coccia finished scoring a 117 while Nylander added a 111 to the field.

Monday will see PSUGA travel to the PSU Dubois Invitational for the second conference contest of the year. They will be facing off against teams across the NAIA, USCAA, NCAA Division III, and NJCAA once again getting to show their talents on the national stage.
