Murphy and Myers Improve as PSUGA Competes in Fayette Invitational

Uniontown, PA. - The Penn State Greater Allegehny Golf team competed in the PSU-Fayette invitational Saturday finishing 6th with a team score of 427. Two PSUGA Golfers improved on their scores from last time out accomplishing head coach Mark Valko's goal.

Eight teams converged on the Uniontown Country Club for the second annual PSU-Fayette invitational. With the Penn State University Athletic Conference Championships just 22 days away, the race is on to qualify to compete on the national stage.

Freshman Sean Murphy (Churchill, PA./Woodland Hills HS) led the way shooting a 90 to finish T-19th at the event. He improved on his score from last time out getting his score back in double digits after shooting a 100 last time out bringing his season average down under 90.

Freshman Alex Myers (Oswego, NY./Oswego HS) shot a 123 lowering his score for the third straight event. Myers has continued to improve his game in his first collegiate season and scored under the 125 mark for the first time this season.

Angie Nylander (Elizabeth, PA./Elizabeth Forward HS) and Justin Wortman (Ashburn, VA./Briar Woods HS) rounded out the field for PSUGA shooting 113 and 101 respectively. Wortman was the only other top 30 finisher s for PSUGA finishing tied for 28th.

The PSUGA golf team has two more events before the PSUAC Championships on October 6th, 7th, and 8th. They currently have three players qualified for the event with Wortman, Murphy, and Bert Hinton (Richmond, VA./Benedictine College Prep) each having averages under 100. With Nylander on the verge of qualifying, PSUGA is looking to send its first full team to the PSUGA Championships in school history.

The PSUGA Golf team is back in action on Tuesday, September 17th, when they head to the PSU-New Kensington Invitational at 10 a.m.
